Oscar-winning movie to hit Turkish theaters
American black comedy “Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” will hit Turkish theaters on Friday.
The thematically rich showbiz satire took home four Academy Awards last Sunday including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
The black-comedy drama was co-written, co-produced and directed by Mexican film director Alejandro Inarritu.
Starring Michael Keaton along with Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton and Naomi Watts, the film is about a faded Hollywood actor famous with his superhero role as “Birdman,” attempting to mount a comeback by appearing in a Broadway play.

Norwegian musician to perform in Istanbul
Norwegian folk-pop musician Moddi will be performing at Istanbul’s Salon IKSV music hall for two nights from Friday.
Moddi recorded his double Norwegian Grammy-nominated debut album “Floriography” in 2010.
Moddi, AKA Pal Moddi Knutsen, released two new albums “Set the House on Fire” and “Kaem va du?” which won the Norwegian grant Spellemann Award for best folk album of the year in 2014.
“I am a self-taught musician, playing the accordion, guitar and singing in English and Norwegian,” the 28-year-old Moddi explains himself: “I believe in a better world and that music can help us get there.”

Group exhibition from Turkey’s young artists
Istanbul-based Blok Art Space is hosting a group exhibition of Turkey’s young artists until Feb 28.
Entitled “Waves,” the exhibition is curated by Ebru Yetiskin and consists of artworks from Alper Derinbogaz, Busra Tunc, Deniz Kader and Ayse Gul Suter.
“The exhibition in which the viewer is invited to explore the ways in which even the minutest phenomenon can affect another and lead to transformations drew a big crowd of new media culture and art enthusiasts,” said Blok Art Space.

Don't worry, be happy... Bobby McFerrin comes to Turkey
The creator of 1980s feel-good anthem “Don’t worry, be happy,” Bobby McFerrin will perform in Istanbul as part of his “Spirityouall” tour on March 3 at CRR Concert Hall.
The 64-year-old McFerrin is an American vocalist and conductor who has won 10 Grammy Awards.
He is mainly known for his unusual vocal techniques.
His latest album Spirityouall focuses on African-American spirituals.

US band 'Earth' to perform in Istanbul
Legendary Washington-based band Earth will take the stage at Istanbul’s Borusan Music House on Feb. 28.
Known as the creator of “drone doom” – a style of heavy metal that mixes slow and heavy tempos – the band was founded by Dylan Carlson – a former friend of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain – in 1990.
The band released its first album “Earth 2” in 1993.
British writer Dayal Patterson says: “A three-track, 75 minutes deluge of feedback and distorted guitars that marked the blueprint of what Dylan at the time coined ‘ambient metal.’”
